3. CONCOR Analysis of SoberCurious Data

We selected 161 words related to the sober curious movement and created a 1-mode word matrix for CONCOR analysis. The analysis identified four clusters: Experiences and Emotional Challenges of Sobriety(135 words), Substitutes and Alternatives(11 words), Non-Alcoholic Drinks & Mocktails(8 words), and Natural & Healthy Beverages(6 words).

The Sober Curious movement encompasses a diverse range of experiences, from the emotional and social challenges of reducing alcohol consumption to the search for suitable alternatives. While many individuals experiment with sobriety to enhance their well-being, they often face social pressures and psychological adjustments. To navigate this transition, some turn to substitutes like cannabis or caffeine, while others embrace non-alcoholic beverages such as mocktails and functional drinks that align with a health-conscious lifestyle.

✅Cluster 1: Experiences and Emotional Challenges of Sobriety

This cluster reflects the personal and emotional journey of individuals who are actively exploring or embracing a sober curious lifestyle. It highlights three key aspects:

1) Motivations and decisions to reduce or quit drinking (e.g., quit, stop, decide, change, stay, struggle). Many individuals in this group are not necessarily committed to lifelong sobriety but are experimenting with reducing alcohol consumption to improve their well-being.

2) Physical and mental effects (e.g., anxiety, sleep, energy, stress, tired, clear, morning). While many report improved sleep, energy levels, and mental clarity, some also experience initial struggles, such as cravings or social anxiety.

✔3) Social impact and challenges (e.g., social, party, bar, relationship, family, partner, community). Since alcohol is deeply embedded in social culture, navigating events and gatherings without drinking can be difficult. However, many in this movement are actively redefining social norms by seeking alternative ways to connect and engage socially without alcohol.

Cluster 2: Substitutes and Alternatives

This cluster highlights the alternative substances and experiences that sober curious individuals turn to in place of alcohol. Some individuals explore cannabis (weed, cannabis), caffeine (coffee, caffeine), and other mild stimulants (coke, buzz, effect) as substitutes for alcohol’s social and psychological effects.

Cluster 3: Non-Alcoholic Drinks & Mocktails

This cluster highlights the increasing variety of non-alcoholic beverage options that allow sober curious individuals to enjoy social settings without alcohol. Mocktails, seltzer, CBD-infused drinks, and alcohol-free cocktails are gaining popularity, providing an inclusive alternative for social drinking experiences.

Cluster 4: Natural & Healthy Beverages

This cluster highlights the growing interest in natural and health-conscious beverages, which align with the wellness-driven mindset of sober curious individuals. Many users seek refreshing and functional beverages such as kombucha, fresh juices, and sparkling water, which offer both flavor and health benefits.

4. Outro

The Sober Curious movement represents a significant cultural shift toward mindful living and well-being. As individuals increasingly prioritize mental and physical health, sobriety is seen not just as abstaining from alcohol but as a pathway to self-improvement. The growing engagement within sober communities, along with the rise of alcohol-free alternatives, reflects the broader acceptance of this lifestyle. As more people embrace sobriety, social spaces and products will continue to evolve, offering inclusive experiences that support health-conscious living.
